Leather types and how to treat them

Even after a purchase on our site, you will not be left alone, we will be at your side whenever you need support, and through our blog, we will give you information and advice on how to treat our products and make them last longer.

Where do we start?

HOW TO TREAT LEATHER, EVEN RECYCLED, AND MAKE IT LAST LONGER

The bags of real leather should always be treated with natural substances and not alcohol-based, here are some solutions for optimal conservation, even in the presence of odors typical of leather caused by moisture

  • First, wipe the leather with a damp cloth, dry it well and leave it in the open air in a dry place. If the bag is not going to be used for a long time, it can be left in the anti-dust cloth bag, making sure it is well closed. If possible, keep the bag by filling it inside with newspaper in order to avoid wrinkles and to keep the product in shape.
  • An all-natural and very effective remedy consists in pouring some baking soda in a glass in abundant quantity adding a few drops of lemon, then wet a sponge or absorbent cotton, and once mixed well, clean the leather bag. At this point you must hermetically seal the bag in a cellophane bag or a tightly sealed bag and leave it that way for at least two/three days, so that the baking soda can also absorb excess moisture. As a last thing you must shake off all the baking soda and wipe a damp rag on the leather bag.

Remember also, that to clean any stains and polish the skin, you can pass a cotton ball with some facial cleansing milk.

BUT WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE WITH RECYCLED LEATHER, AND WHY DO WE CHOOSE IT?

Regenerated leather is an example of virtuous recycling and is one of the new materials of sustainable fashion, this process of recovery of materials that would be destined for disposal, is called upcycling, and is one of the founding principles of sustainable fashion.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN REGENERATED LEATHER, ECO-LEATHER AND IMITATION LEATHER

Regenerated leather is an assemblage of tanning scraps, the latter are shredded or made into powder, and then pressed into sheets.

Eco-leather is a material of animal origin, obtained through a process with a low environmental impact, and must therefore guarantee the safety of the material for the consumer and a production cycle that is low in pollution and optimized.

Imitation leather, on the other hand, is in all respects a synthetic material, composed of a base of cotton or synthetic fibres, which are impregnated and coated with polyurethane resins.

Having made this distinction, we choose recycled leather, first of all to reduce disposal, which creates pollution, and also because we like to think of giving a second life to a material that would otherwise have become waste.
